What we have built.
Fluency Learning Apps — and the Cairo-based work that preceded it — has been building software since the early 2000s. What follows is an account of our products — current and historical — and the thinking behind them.
FlashBrief
ActiveFlagship Product, Active
FlashBrief is a personalized AI-powered daily news podcast. Subscribers choose the topics they want to follow, and each day an automated AI pipeline — developed and maintained by Fluency Learning Apps — searches primary sources, extracts and analyzes full articles, writes a focused script, and produces a professional-quality audio briefing. The episode is delivered automatically to the subscriber's podcast app via private RSS feed. FlashBrief was built to solve a specific problem its founder experienced personally: staying genuinely informed about a wide range of topics — regional news, technology, education, global affairs — without surrendering attention to algorithms or spending an hour wading through noise. The product is built on AWS, uses Anthropic's Claude API for script generation, OpenAI's API for voice synthesis, and Serper.dev for news discovery, and is available at flashbrief.app.
Technology: AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, SES, CloudFront, EventBridge, Cognito, API Gateway), Node.js, Anthropic Claude API, OpenAI TTS API, Serper.dev, Jina Reader, Stripe, FFmpeg
These products are no longer actively developed or sold, but represent the foundation of the company's work.

A suite of three vocabulary and grammar tools for Arabic learners: the Egyptian Arabic Vocab Clinic, the Modern Standard Arabic Vocab Clinic, and the Modern Standard Arabic Verb Clinic. Developed by Fluency Learning Apps and published by the American University in Cairo Press. Each was designed to build word recognition and retention through spaced repetition and contextual practice.
Baalty (My Shop)
HistoricalSerious Game — Late 2000s
An entrepreneurial training simulation game developed for use in North African educational contexts.
